Transporter Tags
Transporter tags are essential for businesses involved in the movement of unregistered vehicles within Florida. At Auto Tags & Titles of South Florida, we assist clients with the acquisition and management of transporter license plates, leading to compliance with state regulations and improved business operations.

What Are Transporter Tags?
Transporter license plates are special tags issued to businesses that transport unregistered motor vehicles not currently registered to any owner and without license plates. These plates allow the legal operation of such vehicles on public roads during transportation. According to Florida Statute 320.133, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) is authorized to issue these plates to eligible applicants.
Eligibility Criteria for Transporter Tags
To qualify for transporter license plates in Florida, businesses must meet specific criteria.
- Business Activity: The applicant must be engaged in transporting unregistered motor vehicles without license plates. This activity should be incidental to the conduct of their primary business.
- Proof of Liability Insurance: Applicants must provide proof of liability insurance coverage of $100,000 or more.
- Business Tax Receipt: A valid business tax receipt, where applicable, is required to demonstrate legitimate business operations.
It’s important to note that certain businesses, such as those transporting people or mobile home dealers, are not eligible for transporter plates.

Application Process for Transporter Tags
Applying for transporter license plates involves several steps.
- Complete the Application Form: Complete the Application for Transporter License Plate (Form HSMV 83065). This form requires details about your business and the number of plates requested.
- Gather Supporting Documents: Along with the application, submit proof of liability insurance and a copy of your business tax receipt.
- Submit to the Appropriate Office: Applications for up to five transporter plates can be processed at your local county tax collector’s office or license plate agency. If applying for more than five plates, submit your application to an FLHSMV Division of Motorist Services Regional Office.
At Auto Tags & Titles of South Florida, we help clients accurately complete and submit these applications, ensuring all requirements are met for a smooth approval process.
Usage Guidelines and Restrictions
Transporter plates come with specific usage guidelines:
- Authorized Use: These plates may only be used on motor vehicles in the business’s possession that are being transported as part of business operations.
- Prohibited Use: Transporter plates cannot be used on vehicles transporting people or on vehicles used for purposes other than transporting unregistered motor vehicles.
Misuse of transporter plates can result in penalties, including fines and revocation of the plates. Auto Tags & Titles of South Florida provides guidance to ensure clients adhere to these regulations.
Fees and Renewal
The license tax for each transporter plate is imposed by Florida Statute 320.08(15). Transporter plates must be renewed annually, with renewal procedures similar to the initial application process. Timely renewal is crucial to maintain compliance and avoid operational disruptions.
